This month we decided to make the Home Page a collection
of photos taken at the Tucson gem and mineral shows. These photos represent more of the "rock" side of the
shows. Most of the shows DO NOT allow photography, so there are no shots of plates full of rubies or sapphires or diamonds
or beautifully designed jewelry (that's what my home shows are about).
Above are the lovely Saguaro Cactus, which live to be hundreds
of years old. It can take a cactus 50 years to grow its first arm. Then there's Coralyn & Dwight with the
Eastern mountains of Tucson in the background.
The two large photos above are typical of what we find at the
motels. People set up right in their motel room and put their displays inside and outside. In both of these, there
are lots of quartz crystals for sale (clear, pink, purple, smoky). Clear quartz is often referred to as "rock crystal"
or as in this dealer's place, Herkimer Diamonds. Notice how large a single crystal can get.
